Trigeneration

Electricity, heat and cold produced in a single process? It's possible. Find out how it works and what benefits it brings.

Trigeneration is an extension of cogeneration technology to the production of cold. It involves the production of electricity, heat and chilled water for air conditioning or refrigeration in a single technological process, thanks to which we use less fuel than during their separate production.

Depending on actual demand, we select appropriate technological solutions, e.g., combining an engine with a heat pump.

Who is it for?

Trigeneration is the solution for you if:

  • your facility has both heating, cooling and electricity needs for most of the year
  • you participate in the ETS (CO2 Emissions Trading Scheme)
  • you are concerned about energy security and do not want to rely solely on external suppliers

Benefits

Savings: you will reduce the costs associated with purchasing electricity and refrigeration.

Security: greater cost stability and increased efficiency in the supply of electricity, heat, and cooling.

The ecological solution: more efficient use of fuel will result in less CO2 being released into the atmosphere. Trigeneration is also part of a pan-European strategy to reduce the use of coolants that are harmful to the environment, particularly to the ozone layer.

Reliability

Subsidies: two support mechanisms are available starting in 2019:

  • < 1 MWe: guaranteed bonus - ongoing recruitment
  • ≥ 1 MWe: auction system - auctions held every quarter

In 2022 alone, we saved 6.2 TWh of energy for our customers, avoiding 4.2 Mt of CO2 emissions, equivalent to taking more than 2 million cars off the road.
