Ensuring 100% steam availability for demand up to 15 t/h.

The challenge

The Labenne plant aims to continuously improve its energy factor, while facing the challenge of boiler feedwater treatment. The plant produces canned vegetables (corn and beans). Steam is used to blanch and sterilize vegetables. Dalkia's challenge was to ensure 100% steam availability for a demand of up to 15 t/h.

Solution

Dalkia accepts a 5-year commitment to supply steam at 8 bar.

It undertakes technical and energy engineering support to optimize plant-wide, process energy flow.

Identified ways to reduce steam consumption in the plant and undertook burner replacement and heat recovery process work. It used remote data reading to optimize boiler plant operations to ensure continuous monitoring of production efficiency.

The solutions applied by Dalkia allowed for the recovery of heat from blanching and heating of vegetables, resulting in 130 MWh of savings per year and allowing for approximately 80% energy recovery from the plant's steam return. By replacing steam with hot water, it reduced overall steam consumption by 7%. It also improved boiler water treatment, with control of dissolved O2.

Benefits

  • Commitment to 100% steam availability
  • 7% reduction in steam consumption thanks to optimised energy flow in the process
  • Annually proposing new vectors of progress by engineering teams
  • Reduce steam production rate by 5% as a result of improved water treatment
  • Award a new contract based on performance
  • Building a long-term relationship based on trust
